CHENNAI: The BCCI’s new diktat of states not being permitted to hire outstation players to participate in its domestic competitions has got the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) into trouble. The board warned the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) that if it does not pay heed to the rule, it has the authority to declare the TNPL an ‘unapproved tournament’, Cricbuzz reports.
The TNPL is known for hiring players from neighbouring states such as Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka as well and has already completed a draft for the third edition of the competition, which is expected to take place from July 11 to August 12. However, this has annoyed the Committee of Administrators (CoA), who has in an email accessed by Cricbuzz, slammed TNCA officials and have warned other state associations to adhere to the BCCI guidelines.
“You (TNCA) have till date not sought permission from the BCCI to conduct the same, thereby acting in contravention of the Rules and Regulations of the BCCI,” the email states.
“Please note that in the event of your failure to comply with the aforesaid (seeking permission and not taking players from other states), the third edition of TNPL may be declared as an “Unapproved Tournament” as provided in Rules and Regulations of BCCI.”
“All the members of the BCCI are also requested to take note of the aforesaid and communicate the same to their registered players and advise the players accordingly so that they are compliant with the Rules and Regulations of the BCCI, failing which appropriate action as prescribed under the Rules and Regulations of the BCCI will be initiated against defaulting Members, players and individuals.”
Incidentally, the TNPL is the brainchild of N Srinivasan, who is the former President of the BCCI and one of the main reasons for the Supreme Court to appoint the CoA in the first place, in the wake of the IPL betting scandal in 2013.
