Leading European digital sports platform DAZN has reportedly acquired media rights for the Indian Premier League in the UK market for the next five years.
According to a report in UK’s Daily Mail, DAZN has sublicensed a part of the IPL rights to ITV, which will be telecasting 16 matches on free-to-air TV in the UK, with the sports streamer taking the other 58 games, including the semi-finals and final.
The incumbent rights holder in the UK for world cricket’s richest annual tournament in the previous three-year cycle (ending 2022) was Sky Sports.
As per UK media reports, Sky decided to let go the IPL rights as a step in centring their focus around English domestic cricket.
