NEW DELHI: GMR Group owned IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils launched their 2018 season jersey at an event here where it was announced that Japanese multinational air conditioning manufacturing company Daikin would continue its association with DD as team sponsor for three more years.
DD also confirmed Wednesday that two-wheeler major Suzuki Motorcycle India under its brand Suzuki Gixxer, alongside FMCG major Cargill India under its brand NatureFresh had come on board as principal sponsors of the side.
At the jersey launch, DD chief executive Hemant Dua declared that Gautam Gambhir had been appointed captain of the franchise for the 2018 Vivo IPL season.
Present on the occasion was Gambhir himself along with his teammates Naman Ojha and Manjot Kalra.
“I had maintained post the auction that Gauti (Gambhir) has unfinished business with the franchise. He was the second highest scorer during the last IPL. But above all, he is a leader, so this appointment was an easy choice. Both Ricky (Ponting, head coach) and Gauti have spoken to each other. I am glad that they are both on the same page,” Dua said.
One half of India’s celebrated opening pair alongside the Virendra Sehwag, Gambhir is returning to play for DD after a gap of eight years.
