DDCA renames Kotla stadium after Jaitley; Kohli stand unveiled

New Delhi: The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Thursday renamed Feroz Shah Kotla Cricket Stadium after former Union minister and president of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) Arun Jaitley, who died last month.

The renaming of the stadium was done to honour the leader who served as DDCA president from 1999 to 2013. At the same function held at the Weightlifting Auditorium of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, a stand at Delhi’s famous cricket venue was named after India captain Virat Kohli.

The Feroz Shah Kotla ground’s name, however, will remain unchanged.

“It is a great occasion. We are honouring two cricket legends. Arun Jaitley was the president of DDCA for 13 years and did a lot and I am very happy that we renaming this stadium after him. Jaitley’s contribution to cricket is immense,” Sharma told ANI here today.

The DDCA also unveiled a new pavilion stand at the stadium and named it after skipper Virat Kohli, who recently became the most successful India captain in Test cricket.

The “virtual unveiling” ceremony was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here by serving DDCA president and founder promoter of the pro-government Hindi news channel India TV, Rajat Sharma.
