NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has dismissed, with costs, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by social activist Sudhir Sharma against the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) and Indian Premier League’s (IPL) auction process.
In his PIL, Sharma alleged that bidding of players in IPL is a violation of constitutional and statutory rights, calling it illegal and should be stopped.
In his plea, Sharma has asked the government to look into the matter related to “international human auctioning”. He said that such practice has promoted corruption and nepotism by selling of players through open bidding.
“The IPL is organising human auctions above law, which is a mockery of the legal system and affecting the serious issue of the right to equality provided by the constitution of India to the citizens”.
