Delhi is hosts for National Archery Qualifiers 2019

NEW DELHI: Despite controversies surrounding its eligibility courtesy the Sports Ministry, the Archery Association of India (AAI) has announced that the national qualifying championships for the Archery World Cup will be conducted from 15-19 April in the city, Press Trust of India reports.

The decision was one of the many taken by the AAI, which held its first executive committee meeting since its highly-publicized elections in December 2018. AAI President BVP Rao also finalised the annual national and international events calendar.

The federation declared that it will be considering performances in the recent Khelo India Youth Games in Pune for selecting cadets to participate in the ISSF World Ranking Championships in Dhaka later this month.

On the other hand, the best performing archers at the ongoing Junior National Archery Championship will compete in the Asia Cup in Bangkok from 24-31 March.

The 40th edition of the Senior National Championships will be taking place in November 2019, after the sub-junior and junior championships, with the venue yet to be decided.

The AAI is also expected to recover an outstanding loan of Rs 2.8 million from the Delhi Archery Association, which could be utilised as part of setting up its full-fledged office in the city.
