Digital rights: FanCode adds women’s cricket tour to Windies

MUMBAI: FanCode, the Dream11-owned ad-free multi-sport aggregator platform, confirmed Sunday that it had secured the digital rights to the Indian women’s cricket team’s ongoing limited-overs tour to the West Indies, further adding to its expanding portfolio of sports properties it live streams.

A post on FanCode’s official Twitter handle uploaded Sunday reads: “Will #TeamIndia and #TeamWestIndies be able to live upto the expectations that the last match set for this tournament?

The “expectations” reference was to the first ODI, wherein the Indian eves had lost a nail-biting encounter by just one run. Sunday’s second ODI was a completely different story however, with the Indians defending a 192-run target with ease at Antigua’s Sir Vivian Richards Stadium for a commanding 53-run victory.

When its streaming service was officially launched in July, FanCode chief business officer Yannick Colaco had said: “We are very excited about our video streaming service that leverages technology to provide users with a great viewing experience.

“This is yet another critical building block for us in setting up FanCode as a sports tech platform which can connect sports fans with content they crave for and we aim to expand these offerings through partnerships with other stakeholders in the ecosystem; including broadcasters, content creators and other rights holders.”

FanCode had earlier in the year announced partnerships with the International Champions Cup 2019 (football) and European Cricket League to exclusively stream live content in India.

In addition, FanCode live streamed friendly games from the Rakuten Cup featuring Barcelona, Chelsea, Vissel Kobe and other games featuring teams like Napoli and Atletico Madrid.

After the first burst of announcements, the platform has gone relatively quiet on the news dissemination front but has been actively exploring (and acquiring) a varied set of digital properties that encompasses the “long tail” of sports offerings beyond just cricket that notably includes football, basketball and volleyball.
