MUMBAI: Dipa Karmakar, India’s ‘Produnova’ girl who shot to fame at the Rio Olympics 2016, is among 20 “role models” honoured by Mattel, makers of the world famous ‘Barbie’ doll range, to celebrate its 60th year of existence.
The gymnast was amongst the 20 names chosen by the brand keeping International Women’s Day in mind as well. From 18 countries, she was the only Indian selected. World No.1 tennis player Naomi Osaka from Japan is another stellar name on the list.
Karmakar confirmed the development on her official Twitter handle which read: “Barbie has always shown girls that they can be anything!! On the occasion of her 60th anniversary, I am honoured to be selected as a Barbie Role Model to help inspire the next generation of girls! #Barbie60 #YouCanBeAnything.”
