Disney Star is reportedly attempting to renegotiate its $3 billion media rights fee obligations to the International Cricket Council for the 2024-27 cycle, after suffering significant losses in advertising revenue during the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald was the first to report that Star has pressed for a renegotiation.
India lifted the T20 World Cup, which was held in the US and the West Indies to promote cricket in newer geographies. However, many advertisers skipped the event, arguing that the India-unfriendly time zones did not justify the premium price tag that Disney Star had put on ad rates for the tournament.
