ABU DHABI: India’s World Cup winning coach Gary Kirsten will tie up with Abu Dhabi Cricket (ADC) to coach budding players in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates.
Gary Kirsten Cricket (GKC), Kirsten’s cricket academy has also conducted coaching camps in cities such as Durban and Pune in the past. It is reported that the South African will himself be available to mentor senior cricketers this winter, with two camps expected to place from 21-25 October and 28th October -1st November.
“This partnership significantly elevates the coaching opportunities open to aspiring cricketers in the UAE through our Zayed Cricket Academy and underlines Abu Dhabi Cricket’s commitment to delivering sporting growth opportunities to the local community,” Talal Al Hashemi, board member, ADC said on the development.
“Gary Kirsten himself will be in Abu Dhabi to personally lead these camps. This means our enrolled cricketers will have the chance to learn from a true record breaker who is renowned for inspiring self-discipline amongst some of the world’s greatest players a rare opportunity indeed,” he added.
Kirsten expressed delight on the partnership, hoping to extend his coaching aspirations to make a difference in players’ careers.
“I have been seriously impressed with the improvements to the Abu Dhabi Cricket infrastructure, in particular, the facilities available to academy students and to the footballing community, which are now truly world-class. I have come here many times over the years, with England Lions and in other coaching capacities, and this is the best I have ever seen the facility. It is fast becoming one of the world’s best cricketing facilities,” Kirsten opined.
