Gautam Thakar steps down as Star Sports CEO

MUMBAI: Star Sports CEO Gautam Thakar has reportedly stepped down from his position. Sanjog Gupta, executive vice-president, Star Network, will be heading the sports division in his place.

Exchange4media, quoting highly placed sources, broke the news on what is a surprising development as it comes bang in the middle of the ongoing Indian Premier League.

What SportzPower understands of the development though, is that Thakar’s exit was in the works for some months now.

Thakar joined the network as Star Sports CEO in January 2018 from eBay, where he spent 10 years in a variety of leadership roles.

Thakar, who has over 23 years of deep operating and leadership experience, started his career as a brand manager with P&G in India, then led baazee.com as a founding management team member to become the No. 1 e-commerce company in India (acquired by eBay in 2004).

Thakar has an MBA from IIM, Lucknow and prior to that a Bachelor’s in Commerce from Sydenham College, Mumbai.
