BENGALURU: In a gesture to support Indian athletes, the team of ‘Ghoomer’, a movie by Hope Productions, designated GoSports Foundation as the recipient of their winnings of Rs 12.5 Lakh from Kaun Banega Crorepati.
The movie’s cast, including Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher, and director R Balki, participated in the show’s episode on August 18.
GoSports Foundation, a national award-winning organization, supports talented athletes across India including Olympic and Paralympic sports through scholarships and knowledge-building programs. The Foundation’s commitment to advancing sporting excellence and empowering athletes align with the vision of ‘Ghoomer’.
In a show of mutual appreciation, selected athletes supported by GoSports Foundation were invited to the movie premieres on August 16-17 in Mumbai and Delhi. Athletes, including Joyti Verma (Para-Badminton), Bhavya Sachdeva (Swimming), Tanishka Khatri (Fencing), Sumit Antil (Para-Javelin), Narayan Thakur (Para-Athletics), Jyoti Baliyan (Para-Archery), Avantika Narale (Athletics), and Vinay Kumar Lal (Para-Athletics), expressed admiration for the film’s narrative across social media platforms. The athletes, who have achieved remarkable feats such as Sumit, holding the world record Para-Javelin throw and securing gold at the Paralympics, or Jyoti Verma and Vinay clinching gold medals in Para-Badminton and Para-Athletics World Championships, represent the spirit of will-power and commitment which the film highlights.
Expressing his joy on the positive reception of the movie, Abhishek Bachchan stated, “These reactions from athletes that I have the utmost respect for are pure gold. I’m so happy I could share the film with them and their love after seeing it too.”
Reflecting on her experience with the Foundation, Saiyami Kher commented, “GoSports supports aspiring Olympians and Paralympians. They have helped me with Ghoomer and we wish to give back to sports by supporting them.”
