Google Ads to ban rummy, fantasy sports ads in India

GOOGLE ADS is set to roll out a significant change to its India-specific Gambling and Games advertising policy from 21 January, effectively barring advertisements for Rummy and Daily Fantasy Sports across the country.

The move is intended to bring Google’s advertising framework in line with India’s evolving regulatory landscape following the introduction of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act (PROGA), 2025.

This revision marks one of the most far-reaching advertising restrictions faced by India’s online gaming industry in recent years. Once the policy takes effect, promotions for Rummy and Daily Fantasy Sports will no longer be permitted on Google’s ad network when campaigns are targeted at Indian users.

The clampdown is expected to hit fantasy sports platforms, real-money gaming operators, affiliate publishers and digital agencies, many of which depend heavily on Google Ads for user acquisition, brand visibility and traffic generation.

From 21 January onwards, Rummy and Daily Fantasy Sports will be removed from Google’s list of approved gambling-related ad categories in India, effectively shutting off one of the industry’s most important digital distribution channels.
