MUMBAI CRICKET ASSOCIATION (MCA) has announced the introduction of central contracts for players, a move aimed at providing structured support and long-term financial security to emerging talent.
The association had first agreed in principle to a graded contract system four years ago, tasking the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) with developing its framework and operational guidelines. After a prolonged wait, the initiative is now set to become a reality.
MCA president Ajinkya Naik said, “Central contracts are a step towards empowering players with stability and confidence, while the T20 scouting tournament will ensure that Mumbai continues to identify and nurture talent suited for the future of the game.”
In another key development, the MCA will launch an inter-collegiate tournament named after former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar. The competition is designed to act as a crucial bridge between college cricket and higher levels of the sport.
“Our vision is to create a robust pathway from college cricket to the highest levels of the game. Naming the Inter-College Tournament after Dilip Vengsarkar reflects the values of excellence and leadership that we want young cricketers to aspire to,” Naik added.
The apex council has also approved the creation of a dedicated T20 scouting tournament in line with the changing demands of the game. The event will serve as a formal talent-identification platform for the T20 Mumbai League, offering a transparent and merit-based route for promising players to progress to elite competition.
