MUMBAI: Star India’s streaming platform Hotstar says it has clocked ‘a record opening night with over 3X more viewers tuning in, compared to the previous season.’
The new season of the Indian Super League kicked-off in Kochi on 17 November. Hotstar had claimed ‘doubling’ of watch time of the ISL third edition over the previous year’s viewership. ISL 2016 had a total viewership of 216 million, an overall increase of nine million from the last edition on Star Sports.
The opening match recorded a 5X increase in total time spent (minutes watched) compared to the opening match of Season 3, says a company statement. The League, this year, will be played over 17 weeks, up from 12 weeks in the last season, and also brings to the fray, two new teams – Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC – taking the on-field stakes up by several notches.
