DUBAI: In a bid to revive Test cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has agreed to teams wishing to flaunt names of their players and jersey numbers in whites just as in coloured clothing during ODIs and T20Is, Press Trust of India reports.
The idea of it being used in international cricket was brought about recently by the England and Australian cricket teams ahead of this year’s iconic Ashes series in England.
Incidentally, these two countries’ boards have previously okayed players having their jersey numbers and names written during County Championship matches in England and Sheffield Shield matches in Australia.
However, the ICC has announced that the move will be effective from 1 August which is at the start of the inaugural World Test Championship. During that time, the Indian team will be playing in the second Test of the 3-match series on their tour of the West Indies.
“Yes, it starts from August 1 for the World Test Championship. It is a part of the wider plan to promote Test cricket,” ICC GM – Strategic Communications Claire Furlong told the newswire on Friday.
