DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) Tuesday confirmed that India is one of the teams to have directly qualified for the Men’s T20 World Cup to be held in Australia from 18 October to 15 November 2020, based on the MRF Tyres Men’s T20I Team Rankings as on 31 December 2018.
As per the qualification criteria set for the tournament, India alongside the top 7 teams of the world such as hosts Australia, No.1 ranked Pakistan, defending champions West Indies, England, South Africa, New Zealand and Afghanistan are guaranteed to play in the Super 12s stage.
The other four teams will be determined by group stage qualifiers in which 2014 champions Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will battle it out with six other teams who will make it through from the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier in 2019.
