NEW DELHI: Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi Stadium and Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium will remain as standby venues for the Indian Premier League’s playoffs and final on May 12 if the impasse regarding three stands at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, which have remained closed for seven years and counting, is not resolved.
The has not been able to procure the fit certificate since 2012, remains unresolved.
The fact that the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has been unable to get the required fit certificate for three stands – I, J and K – from the Chennai Municipal Corporation even after seven years does not inspire any confidence that the matter will be resolved before the play-offs.
“We will have discussions with TNCA as we don’t want to deprive CSK their right of playing at home. But three empty stands is an issue. Hyderabad and Bangalore are the two standby venues for two play-offs, eliminator and final,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on Monday.
