NEW DELHI: The 2019 edition of the Vivo Indian Premier League will NOT be played on foreign shores, the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), which a meeting here on the matter Tuesday, has confirmed.
Despite the logistical complexities of holding the IPL on home soil in an election year, the 11th edition of world cricket’s biggest annual jamboree will be played in India. The tournament will start from March 23.
However, there might be a change in the usual home and away formats and the tournament might be conducted in a caravan format due to the elections. The final dates and venues if the games are likely to be confirmed once election dates are announced.
Statement released by the BCCI in full:
“The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) on Tuesday met in New Delhi to discuss the VIVO IPL 2019 venues and window.
“Based on the preliminary discussions with the appropriate Central and state agencies / authorities, it was decided that the 12th edition of the world’s most popular and competitive T20 tournament will be scheduled to be played in India.
“It is proposed that the VIVO IPL 2019 will commence on March 23, 2019. The detailed schedule will be finalised in consultation with the appropriate authorities.
“The COA will then have detailed discussion with all the Stakeholders before releasing the VIVO IPL 2019 Schedule.”
