JAMSHEDPUR: The Tata Steel-owned Jamshedpur FC of the Indian Super League (ISL) took to Twitter on Saturday to officially announce that it has signed up Australia’s all-time leading goal-scorer, Tim Cahill for the fifth season of the competition starting later this month.
The club confirmed earlier reports that the new head coach of the franchise, Cesar Ferrando was keen on getting Cahill on board, despite his recent struggles in club football in England and retiring from internationals after the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Jamshedpur FC’s tweet read: “The biggest signing of the #HeroISL 2018-19 season is here! Ladies and gentleman, presenting our latest recruit, a footballing legend – @Tim_Cahill! #JamKeKhelo #CahillIndia”
The announcement was met with much excitement from fans of the club as well as the player’s, which was shown in a 55-second video posted by the club on the social media platform on Sunday.
The 38-year-old in response declared his delight at the development as his tweets read:
“I’m excited to announce that I’m signing for Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League.I’ve been really impressed in my conversations with the club by their professionalism and goals for what they want to achieve.”
“I know I can help the team on and off the park with my leadership and experience. I want to help grow the game and encourage young kids to play football. I’m looking forward to beginning this next adventure, meeting my teammates at training camp in Madrid. #WeAreJamshedpurFC “
Cahill’s presence is likely to boost Jamshedpur’s attack, which lacked the killer instinct that made the club miss out on the playoffs in their inaugural season in 2017 by a narrow margin despite having amongst the best defensive players in the business.
