KABADDI CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (KCL) has taken a significant step towards its inaugural season following the successful completion of its Zone 4 and Central trials in Sonipat, setting the stage for a mega player auction scheduled for 28 December.
The upcoming auction will see eight franchises compete to assemble their squads from a strong pool of domestic talent, with each team operating under a total player purse of Rs 4 crore.
The recently concluded trials attracted an overwhelming response from across the country, with more than 3,500 player registrations and over 1,500 athletes taking part in the Central trials in Sonipat. Following an extensive selection process, more than 110 players were shortlisted, while the final auction pool is expected to include between 200 and 250 players across multiple categories, according to a KCL release.
The selection panels comprised former kabaddi players and seasoned stalwarts, whose experience and expertise brought depth and credibility to the scouting process. With the trial phase now complete, focus turns to the auction, where franchises will begin shaping their teams.
Clubs will build their squads within the prescribed purse limits while complying with league-defined squad composition guidelines, the details of which are set to be formally communicated ahead of the auction.
Designed to strengthen kabaddi’s pathway from grassroots to the professional level, KCL aims to offer both emerging and established players meaningful competitive exposure and long-term career development opportunities.
