Kho-Kho wins official OCA recognition

JAKARTA: After kabaddi, a second “traditional” Indian sport has won recognition from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

The recognition was granted by the OCA at its general assembly meeting here Sunday, PTI reports.

Kho-Kho will now be included as a demonstration sport in the Asian Indoor Games and stands a very good chance to feature in the next Asian Games event, official sources told the newswire.

OCA chief Sheikh Ahmad Al-Sabah, who had recently remarked that India’s chances of hosting events such as the Asian Games were bright in the future, confirmed the news in a letter to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) secretary general and president of the Asian Kho-Kho Federation, Rajeev Mehta.

“I have great pleasure in informing you that the OCA in its General Assembly has officially recognised the sport of Kho-Kho.

“I am confident that with this recognition, the Asian Kho-Kho Federation will make further efforts in promoting and developing this sport all over the world,” the letter stated.
