BANGKOK: Spain’s LaLiga and Thailand’s Thai League have come together in a unique partnership, signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote football development over the next two seasons.
According to the official LaLiga website, the signing ceremony was attended by Ivan Codina, the head of LaLiga’s regional office in Singapore; SomyotPoompanmoung, the president of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT); and Emilio de Miguel Calabia, the Spanish ambassador to Thailand.
The MoU also features the lines of communication for expertise to be exchanged on sports integrity, women’s football and various aspects of sports management.
As per the agreement, LaLiga will support its Thai counterpart on the creation of sporting academies for youngsters and a development programme that will include training visits to Spain for Under-16, Under-19 and Under-21 players.
Thailand will also get a boost from the LaLiga when it comes to developing the women’s game in the country as well as in content creation and digital strategies to up the reputation of Thai professional football. Knowledge-exchange initiatives such as conducting workshops for Thai clubs could be a huge part of this, giving them an insight into LaLiga’s methods.
With this MoU, both the leagues have committed to guaranteeing a clean game, tackle issues such as match-fixing together that bring football and sport into disrepute. Their partnership will include fighting against piracy which would involve directing the traffic of content authorised broadcasters and not illegal websites.
