MARK WALTER has completed his acquisition of a majority stake in the Los Angeles Lakers, following unanimous approval from the NBA Board of Governors.
Alongside his shareholding in the Lakers, Walter also controls MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers and the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, and holds an ownership stake in Chelsea FC. TWG Global, is the majority owner of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, owns the Professional Women’s Hockey League, and has made a significant investment in the Billie Jean King Cup, the women’s World Cup of tennis. Walter serves as co-chairman and CEO of TWG Global, a diversified holding group spanning financial services, merchant banking, artificial intelligence, sport, media and entertainment, focused on elevating businesses with strong growth potential.
Jeanie Buss will remain Governor of the Lakers and continue to oversee day-to-day operations for the foreseeable future. Her ongoing leadership underscores Walter’s belief in the power of elite sport to drive performance, purpose and community impact. The Lakers remain central to that philosophy, and Walter is committed to building on the franchise’s legacy.
