NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to grant an urgent hearing to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking the cancellation of the forthcoming India–Pakistan T20 clash in Dubai on 14 September, part of the Asia Cup 2025.
The petition, filed by four law students, was mentioned before a division bench of Justices J.K. Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi. Counsel for the petitioners urged the court to list the matter on Friday, citing the match date on Sunday. The bench, however, refused the request, remarking orally that the “match must go on.”
With only days to go before the high-profile encounter, tickets remain on sale — an unusual situation given that India–Pakistan fixtures typically sell out within hours. A key factor appears to be soaring prices, with some tickets reportedly exceeding Rs 2.5 lakh for just two seats, according to TOI.
The fixture has also been mired in controversy, as boycott calls gather momentum amid heightened tensions between the two countries, only months after a four-day military standoff.
