MCA Stadium to host remaining CSK home games: IPL GC

MUMBAI: The loss of hosting rights for the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai as a fallout from the ongoing agitation in Tamil Nadu demanding the setting up of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) has proved a boon for the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

The Indian Premier League Governing Council issued a statement Thursday confirming that Chennai Super Kings, which has made a comeback to the IPL after serving a two-year ban, will now play all six of their remaining home matches at the MCA Stadium.

Chennai will thus witness no more IPL action this season.

The decision comes in wake of protests from Tamil groups demanding that no IPL match should take place in the city until the CMB is set up.

As the Chennai police also expressed their inability to provide adequate security for the remaining matches of CSK, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to shift the matches late on Wednesday.

According to IPL officials, the BCCI had earlier shortlisted four cities to host CSK’s home matches – Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Pune and Rajkot.

The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led CSK side will next face Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on April 15.
