Microsoft teases next-gen Xbox console ‘Project Helix’

MICROSOFT has teased its next-generation Xbox console under the codename “Project Helix”, offering an early look at the company’s future gaming hardware strategy. The new system is expected to blend the traditional console experience with elements typically associated with PC gaming.

The teaser was shared by Xbox’s newly appointed CEO Asha Sharma, who recently took charge of the division following the retirement of longtime Xbox head Phil Spencer. In a social media post, Sharma highlighted Microsoft’s renewed focus on expanding the Xbox ecosystem.

One of the key highlights of Project Helix is its potential ability to support both Xbox console titles and PC games. Sharma wrote, “Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games.”

If implemented, the feature could significantly broaden the console’s game library while reinforcing Microsoft’s wider strategy of creating a unified gaming ecosystem across multiple devices.

While the company has yet to reveal detailed technical specifications, early reports indicate that Project Helix may be powered by a semi-custom AMD system-on-chip, similar to the architecture used in current Xbox consoles but designed with greater PC-like flexibility. Such an approach could allow Microsoft to retain backwards compatibility with existing Xbox titles while supporting newer games and deeper PC integration.

Project Helix is expected to succeed the current console generation, which includes the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, both released in 2020. Microsoft has not yet announced a potential launch timeline for the new console.
