Mithali Raj gets land, cash from Telangana govt

MUMBAI: The Telangana state government has gifted Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj a cheque for Rs 10 million and 600 square yards of land in Banjara Hills for her career achievements.

Deccan Chronicle reports that state sports minister T Padma Rao Goud, sports secretary Burra Venkatesham and Sports Authority of Telangana State chairman Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy awarded the cheque and land documents to the 35 year old at the Secretariat Conference Hall on Thursday. Mithali’s coach RSR Murthy too was handed a cheque for Rs 2.5 million on the occasion.

Mithali is the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket and the only female cricketer to surpass the 6,000-run mark in ODIs, and the first captain (men or women) to lead India to an ICC ODI World Cup final twice — in 2005 and 2017.
