Nadal joins $100m career prize money club after 11th French Open title

MUMBAI: World No.1 Rafael Nadal created history on court on Sunday with the La Undecima, winning the French Open for the 11th time. 

Nadal pocketed a whopping $2.6 million for his effort, his highest ever at the Roland Garros due to the organizers increasing the tournament prize money pot to $47.5 million this year.

This ensured that the 17-time Grand Slam champion crossed the $100 million mark when it comes to prize money earned throughout his career, becoming the third player in history to do so after arch-rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard’s earnings were at $98 million prior to the final.

According to the ATP World Tour, Federer’s earnings taking singles and doubles tournaments on aggregate stand at $116.22 million, topping the list of men’s tennis players in history in this regard. While Djokovic comes in at second with $110.91 million, having won 12 Grand Slams and 30 ATP Masters titles.
