NETFLIX will stream the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix live to viewers in the United States in May, under an agreement that makes the season eight of its hit docu-series Drive to Survive available on Apple TV.
Apple TV has replaced ESPN, owned by The Walt Disney Company, as the exclusive United States broadcaster of Formula 1 from this season, securing live rights to all 24 rounds of the championship.
Season eight of Drive to Survive, offering behind-the-scenes access to the 2025 campaign won by McLaren and Lando Norris, launches globally on Friday. The new Formula 1 season, which includes three races in the United States, begins in Australia on 8 March.
Apple senior vice-president of services Eddy Cue said that select races and practice sessions would be made available free of charge during the season, according to a Reuters report. He added that Netflix has played a significant role in expanding Formula 1’s popularity since the debut of Drive to Survive.
Formula 1 chief media rights and broadcast officer Ian Holmes credited ESPN with elevating the sport’s profile in the United States, a key growth market, and described the new partnership with Apple as the next major evolution in its broadcast strategy.
