Officials visit Ahmedabad as India preps for CWG 2030

A team of officials from Commonwealth Sport, led by director of Games Darren Hall, is in Ahmedabad for a three-day visit starting today, to inspect potential venues and hold meetings with Gujarat government officials — as India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games gains momentum.

The delegation arrived in New Delhi on Sunday before travelling to Ahmedabad, the proposed host city should India secure the Games. During their visit to the capital, they met with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officials.

“Yes, a team from Commonwealth Sport (formerly known as Commonwealth Games Federation) is in New Delhi and will visit Ahmedabad from August 5 to 7. A large delegation from Commonwealth Sport will visit later this month.” an official told PTI.

India’s prospects of hosting the 2030 Games have strengthened following Canada’s withdrawal from the bidding process last month. India has already submitted an Expression of Interest, proposing Ahmedabad as the host city, and is required to submit its final bid before the 31 August deadline.

The final decision will be made by the General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport, scheduled to take place in the last week of November in Glasgow.
