Premium Chinese smartphone brand dials Virat as brand ambassador

MUMBAI: Premium Chinese handset maker iQOO, which recently announced its entry into India, on Wednesday roped in cricketer Virat Kohli as its as its brand ambassador.

According to the company, Kohli will be seen in an integrated campaign, the first leg (teaser phase) of which is already live on the brand’s social media handles/ channels and ecommerce platform Flipkart. 

The second leg is scheduled to go live on February 25, the launch date for iQOO’s first product for the Indian market, across digital, print and Flipkart.

The campaign will be on air during IPL season, and aims to inspire those who are willing to push their limits and will not let any barrier stop them from achieving their quest.

Gagan Arora, director-marketing, iQOO, said: “We are hopeful that our focus on high performance, innovation, and differentiation in the premium segment is well communicated through the campaigns that we are going to drive with Virat.”

iQoo initially entered the smartphone market last year as a sub-brand of IPL title sponsor Vivo. However, in India the brand has been set up as a separate legal entity. iQOO will be launched in two variants in India, a 4G handset and a handset which supports 5G. 

The smartphone is projected as a premium offering to compete with the flagships of OnePlus, Huawei, and Xiaomi.
