This is interesting. Anil Kumar Lahoti, a career bureaucrat who has been with the Indian Railways pretty much throughout his service, has been appointed the chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for a period of three years, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has stated.
Lahoti’s last posting was as chairman and CEO of the Railway Board. He has an experience of over 19 years and began his career with Northern Railways as Chief Engineer – Construction, in February 2005.
The post of TRAI chairman has been lying vacant since September last year after PD Vaghela completed his two-year term. Meenakshi Gupta (Member) was given additional charge in the interim.
Earlier this month, media reports said the cabinet secretary interviewed four candidates for the post. It had mentioned that a Railway Board member was among two former secretaries interviewed for the post, e4m reports.
The Department of Telecommunications (DOT) had invited applications for the same in December.
This was the second advertisement that the government issued, the first being released on June 26, 2023.
