MUMBAI: News doing the rounds that ‘returning’ Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals have asked for a new team name and are contemplating shifting their base out from the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) stadium in Jaipur are reportedly incorrect.
“The media has misconstrued everything. Do you think we would want to change our identity and brand name which we have built over the last few years?” DNA quotes a Royals source privy to entire restructuring and planning of getting RR back into IPL, as having said.
The source ruled out moving away from the home ground and added that the franchise wanted to make a new beginning in the IPL from its original home base Sawai Man Singh (SMS) stadium in Jaipur.
He further added that they will keep the name intact and pointed out that the franchise has asked to change their company holding name which is Jaipur IPL Cricket Pvt Ltd to Royal Sports, primarily as they wish to get involved in other sports as well to develop and nurture more talent. “So, there is no name change happening, it’s a request to change holding company name,” the source told the daily.
