Revised BCCI constitution ‘almost ready’: Rai

NEW DELHI: The head of the BCCI’s Committee of Administrators (CoA), Vinod Rai, on Monday revealed that the new constitution for the Indian cricket board, which was being prepared in line with the Supreme Court order issued earlier this month, would be ready in the next few days.

“We are almost ready with the new constitution and it will take maybe another couple of days,” Rai told PTI.

A meeting was conducted on Monday in the capital city which featured the CoA members and BCCI CEO Rahul Johri on forming the new constitution, the newswire reports.

Rai further confirmed that the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising of legends Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, would continue to function till the new BCCI constitution is adopted and elections take place.

“As of now, the existing CAC will continue. Our counsel had sought clarification from the court and when they came to know the existing composition of the CAC, they gave us permission to continue with Sachin, Sourav and VVS till elections are held.” Rai told PTI.

The CAC has come under some controversy in recent times due to conflict of interest issues. Tendulkar’s son Arjun had made his U-19 debut for India in Sri Lanka last month while Laxman is serving as the mentor of the Sunrisers Hyderabad side in the IPL. When it comes to Ganguly, the former Indian captain is the current president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

Formed in 2015, the CAC’s role has been to take all cricket-related policy decisions such as appointing the coaches and selectors of Indian national teams.
