MUMBAI: One of the two new franchises in the Indian Premier League has been given a name. Lucknow Super Giants was unveiled Monday as the name for the IPL team bought by the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group for a record sum of Rs 7090 crore ($940 million approx.) in October last year.
Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka said the name for his franchise had been finalised based on a crowd-sourced campaign.
Last week Lucknow Super Giants announced that KL Rahul would be the captain of the new franchis, after agreeing to pay the batsman Rs 17 crore for his services this season, the joint-highest fee paid to a player in IPL.
