MUMBAI: Cricket South Africa (CSA), which has invited bids from international parties for its third shot at mounting a franchise-based T20 league, has so far reportedly received a total of 29 Expressions of Interest (EoI) regarding the ownership of a team.
The six-team tournament is slated to be held next year in the January-February window.
As per Cricbuzz, the teams will be announced later this month. The initial deadline for the bids was set for July 11 but has been extended until Wednesday, July 14 owing to the participants’ request.
The league has reportedly seen active interest from the owners of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC).
Cricbuzz further reports that US-based private equity firm CVC Capitals, which owns IPL franchise Gujarat Titans, has also shown interest.
Aside from IPL franchises, there has also been interest from a few team owners from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as well, as too from a Kevin Pietersen-led consortium.
While it isn’t official yet, but CSA reportedly intends to reserve two of the six franchises that will constitute the league in the inaugural season for local South African investors.
