NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has asked the Archery Association of India (AAI) to amend its constitution in conformity with the National Sports Development Code (NSDCI) within one week.
SC appointed former Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi is thereafter expected to oversee elections to the sports body. A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud on Monday directed that the amendment to AAI should be in conformity with the NSDCI after Additional Solicitor General P.S.Narasimha told the court that the amendment already carried out were not in consonance with the Code.
The court also said that the amendments will be treated as directions of the top court, reports IANS.
“It is directed that amendment shall be incorporated by treating it as an order of the court. After the constitution comes into force, election shall be held under the supervision of S Y Quraishi who has been appointed as the Administrator by the High Court, within four weeks (of this),” it said.
“The amended constitution shall be filed before this court … But the filing of the amended constitution will not postpone the election, as directed herein-above. To elaborate, amendment shall be incorporated stating the same as an order of the Court within a week hence and thereafter Mr. Quraishi shall proceed to hold the election in accordance with the constitution which will come into existence by virtue of the order passed today,” the court said in its order today.
Quraishi, the court said, “shall be at liberty to see that the constitution of the Association is strictly in accordance with the Code and thereafter proceed with the election. If he has any reservation, he is at liberty to move this court.”
