NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is all set for a May 1 hearing which could determine the future of the BCCI’s office-bearers, who have been in constant confrontation with the Committee of Administrators (CoA).
According to a report in Times of India, the two-member CoA panel of Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji has recommended elections for a fresh set of office-bearers by removing acting president CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry, citing the end of their tenures as per the BCCI constitution. It has also asked for the apex court’s direction on having an annual general meeting without adopting the new constitution as per the Lodha Committee reforms agenda.
Relations between the BCCI and CoA have soured. The CoA has also alleged that it is the office bearers who are responsible for delaying the implementation of Lodha reforms.
The Supreme Court also has the task of filling up two vacancies in the CoA left vacant after Ramachandra Guha and Vikram Limaye quit due to different reasons.
It remains to be seen if the court recasts some of the Lodha panel recommendations like the one-state-one vote and the cooling off period on the request of the BCCI.
