Schedule for cricket return to Olympics at LA28 announced

According to the competition schedule for the Olympic Games LA28, cricket’s much-anticipated return to the Olympic Games will begin on 12 July 2028, with medal matches set to take place on the 20th and 29th of the month.

Matches are scheduled for 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM local time in Los Angeles, with the same timings applying to the medal fixtures. In Indian Standard Time (IST), the first match will begin at 9:30 PM IST, while the second match will start at 7:00 AM IST the following day.

Cricket’s sole appearance at the Olympics so far was at Paris 1900. At LA28, cricket will return in a far more modern format, featuring separate T20 tournaments for men and women — each awarding gold, silver, and bronze medals.

While full scheduling details, including the gender sequence and match order, are still to be announced later this year, it is expected that women’s matches may follow the men’s competition, running parallel to allow fair exposure, viewership, and fan engagement.

The group stage matches will run across two clusters, July 12 to 18 and July 22 to 28, with both medal matches split into separate days: the first on July 19, and the grand finale reserved for July 29, on the eve of the Closing Ceremony.

All cricket matches at the Olympic Games LA28 will take place at a temporary, purpose-built venue located at the Fairgrounds in Pomona — a city situated approximately 50 kilometres from Los Angeles.

According to LA28’s official release, the makeover is “purpose-built to highlight cricket”, turning a traditional American fairground into a global cricketing stage.
