Simple majority to decide election of next ICC chair: Report

MUMBAI: The International Cricket Council has reportedly simplified the process of electing the ICC’s next chairman, which is scheduled for November-December.

Greg Barclay of New Zealand is the current ICC chairman.

As per the recommendation made by the board, the contestant getting 51% of votes will be declared elected, Cricbuzz reports. Broken down, in a 16-member board, a potential candidate needs the backing of nine directors as opposed to the two-thirds majority (11 votes) required earlier.

It is still not clear who will be the candidates in the fray. Barclay has not ruled out seeking another term (of two years) but as previously reported by Cricbuzz, all eyes are on big daddy India and the BCCI.
