COLOMBO: Sri Lanka Cricket has finally “read the room” after seemingly living in cuckoo land for most of last week. SLC announced Sunday that the 2022 edition of the Lanka Premier League has been postponed due to the economic and political maelstrom the country is right bang in the middle of.
That the SLC chose to announce the schedule for LPL 2022 last week even as the island nation declared a state of emergency as thousands of people mobbed the Prime Minister’s office after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled a country that had descended into complete anarchy was in and of itself an exercise in delusion.
As per SLC’s alternate reality schedule, LPL 2022 was to have seen see a total of 24 matches played, running from from August 1 through to August 21.
Be that as it may, the SLC has finally given itself a reality check.
