NEW DELHI: The Sports Ministry has asked all National Sports Federations (NSFs) to formulate a five-year development plan and announce three good governance initiatives.
These directives are part of a broader set of measures discussed during the Khelo Bharat Conclave, a one-day event involving federations and key stakeholders. The Ministry also urged federations to finalise their selection policies for the Asian Games by 29 August.
Additionally, the Ministry plans to establish task forces aimed at nurturing homegrown coaches and sports administrators. With an eye on India’s bid for the 2036 Olympic Games and the ambition to enhance its global sporting performance, the government is seeking to reshape India’s sports ecosystem.
As part of these reform efforts, the National Sports Governance Bill is set to be tabled in Parliament during the upcoming monsoon session, aiming to bring systemic changes to sports governance. Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet has approved the Khelo Bharat Niti (National Sports Policy) — a strategic blueprint designed to position India as a global sporting powerhouse and a serious contender at major international events.
The Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said, “If all stakeholders can move forward with united effort, we can take Indian sports forward. I urge the NSFs to provide a five-year policy by August and then we can develop a 10-year roadmap on how to take India to the top-10 in medal tally in the world.”
