Srinivasan confirms MS Dhoni does not want to be retained

MUMBAI: N Srinivasan, owner of Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings, has confirmed that CSK captain MS Dhoni, who won a fourth IPL title for his team this year, does not want to be retained.

The IPL retention rules state that a franchise can retain up to four players and will have to commit Rs 16 cr to retain its first choice player, Rs 12 cr for the second, Rs 8 cr for the third, and Rs 6 cr for the fourth. The costing changes when the number of retained players go down.

So, if CSK decides to retain four players, they will have to spend Rs 16 crore for Dhoni, who should be their first player to be retained.
