MUMBAI: The setback Star India suffered following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of its plea filed against the tariff order by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regarding pricing and packaging of television channels notwithstanding, India’s lead broadcast network has announced plans to launch two regional sports channels – Star Sports 1 Telugu and Star Sports 1 Kannada – by 31 December.
The channel launch announcement was made in tandem with the network publishing the maximum retail price (MRP) and bouquet rates of its channels. A point of note is that Star has not included sports among its bouguet rate offerings.
Star has already announced plans to launch regional sports channels in Bengali, Marathi, and Malayalam.
Star Sports 1 Hindi and Star Sports 1 Tamil are the language channel offerings the network currently beams into India, it needs noting.
The a la carte pricing of its sports channels are as follows:
Star Sports 1, Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports Select 1, Star Sports 1 Telugu, Star Sports 1 Kannada – Rs 19
Star Sports 1 Tamil – Rs 17
Star Sports Select 2 – Rs 7
Star Sports 2 – Rs 6
Star Sports 3 – Rs 4
Star Sports First – Re 1
