MUMBAI: Acting on expected lines, Star India has slotted the debut of Star Sports 1 Marathi – its sixth regional sports channel – for 15 July, just ahead of the launch of the 2019 season of the network-owned Pro Kabaddi League on 20 July.
Star Sports made the announcement via its official Twitter account, tweeting: “Star Sports 1 Marathi will launch on July 15. Please contact your service provider regarding its availability.”
It bears noting that the launch date validates a June 14 report by SportzPower that had surmised that the launch of Star Sports 1 Marathi would be timed to coincide with PKL Season 7.
For the record, the broadcaster received the ministry of information and broadcasting’s (MIB) approval to rename its licences Star Movies Kids and Star Movies Kids HD to Star Sports 1 Bangla and Star Sports 1 Marathi in March itself.
However, it was only Star Sports 1 Bangla that launched on 5 March with an MRP of Rs 19.
Star Sports 1 Marathi, which is also priced at Rs 19, will be the sixth regional sports channel from the Star India stable after Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Bangla.
As already reported, the next regional sports channel from the network’s stable will be Star Sports 1 Malayalam, for which MIB approval was secured on 20th May.
Star’s sports network currently comprises of 16 channels including five in high definition (HD). It currently operates channels in six languages namely English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Bangla.
