Star sublicenses IPL UK rights to BT Sport

LONDON: BT Sport have confirmed that they will, for the first time, broadcast every game of the VIVO Indian Premier League 2019.

The announcement, made on the eve of the tournament, came just days after pay-TV rival Sky Sports revealed that it had lost coverage of the competition only one season into its multi-year agreement with global rights holder Star India.

Star India had earlier this week declared that the IPL would be showcased on the network’s video streaming service Hotstar as well as on Star Gold to UK audiences.

BT Sport will broadcast at least one game a day, beginning Saturday with the opening fixture between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, with every game available on BTSport.com and on the BT Sport app.

The IPL continues to attract the sport’s biggest names with the likes of Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and MS Dhoni all on show in the world’s biggest annual Twenty20 tournament.

Andy Haworth, managing director of strategy and content for BT Consumer, said: “The VIVO IPL is one of the most exciting cricket competitions in the world right now and offers something for all of our customers. With some of cricket’s biggest names lighting up the league every day, BT Sport will bring you all of the action and excitement.”
