TCS World 10K announces new partnership with Vayah Vikas

BENGALURU: The city of Bengaluru is gearing up for the world’s premier 10K run — the Tata Consultancy Services World 10K Bengaluru — set to take place on Sunday, 21st May.

Participants from across the globe will #ComeAlive on the iconic boomerang route as they run, jog, walk to celebrate the indomitable human spirit.

Promoted by Procam International, pioneers of distance running in India, the TCS World 10K has announced a new partnership with Vayah Vikas, a non-profit organization based in Bengaluru, that focuses on building a supportive community for silvers, to strengthen the Senior Citizen Run Category.

The Senior Citizen Run has been an integral part of this World Athletics Gold Label Road Race since its inception. A distinct category within the race, it is a significant platform that acknowledges the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in athletic events.

The category highlights the significance of encouraging physical activity in later years, involvement of the seniors in the mainstream and an equal opportunity to explore new avenues. It also gives the silvers a chance to take centre stage and show off their talents, prowess, and tenacity.

Furthermore, this category can serve as a catalyst for additional projects, aimed at building an inclusive and accessible initiative that can engage and enrich older communities.

Dr Devi Shetty, Trustee, Vayah Vikas, said: “Vayah Vikas and Procam are partnering to encourage healthy aging among seniors through a 4.2 km walk/run. Physical activity has numerous benefits such as weight management, disease prevention, improved metabolism, lower blood pressure and stronger immunity. By leading by example, seniors can inspire the younger generations that age is not a barrier to achieving great things.”

Speaking about the association, Vivek Singh, Jt. MD, Procam International, said: “We have always believed that the energy and zeal that our seniors exude serves as an example to us all and inspire us to be better. We are thrilled to welcome Vayah Vikas as the SCR Facilitator. Their involvement will enhance the category and act as a beacon to further encourage seniors to take part.”

Registrations for the World Athletics Gold Label race are on in full swing and will continue till April 28 subject to the availability of running places. In addition to the physical event, there will also be a virtual app-run exclusively on the TCS World 10K app, and registrations for it will remain open until May 15 or until running places are filled, whichever is earlier.
