Times Group invests in sports messenger app Machaao

MUMBAI: Bennett Coleman and Company Limited (BCCL) or The Times Group, India’s largest media conglomerate, announced Thursday that its strategic investment arm, Brand Capital has invested in Machaao Inc., a global digital sports media company.

Founded in 2016 by the Indian-origin and San Francisco-based Harshal Dhir, Machaao is aiming to build an conversational prediction platform through its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot Ganglia, which enables millions of sports fans can compete to win daily cash or brand rewards. The company claims to have served over 1 million users worldwide and had over 2 billion personalised interactions.

Fans can get timely and useful information such as live scores and sports updates as well as data about their favourite clubs and players. All this is done by the company using the Facebook Messenger App.

By mid-2019, through the use of blockchain technology, Machaao plans to launch games where friends can challenge each other by inviting their opponents.
