TOKYO: The organising committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) has become a part of the United Nations Global Compact, a worldwide initiative by the UN that will aid businesses in developing their strategies and operations in lieu with 10 basic principles spanning across human rights, labour regulations, the environment and anti-corruption measures.
The Global Compact also takes into account those strategic actions that can be adopted to enhance UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. As of this month, over 13,000 companies, public sector organisations and others in about 160 countries around the world are a part of the initiative.
Tokyo 2020 has repeatedly emphasized on the importance of environmental sustainability due to which their global sponsors such as Toyota are building new marketing strategies around the Olympics. The Game’s guiding principle of “Be better, together – for the planet and the people” suits perfectly to the United Nations Global Compact.
